Product Description Lady Phoebe Fairchild is well aware that the ton would be appalled to learn of a young lady of quality involved in a trade. Therefore, she resorts to selling her beautiful handmade gowns under a fictitious name: Madame Dupree. So when circumstances force her to visit the estate of William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield, to design ball gowns for his sisters, she assumes Madame's identity. Phoebe's discomfort in her new position as hired help is nothing compared to her visceral attraction to the viscount himself. Heathenishly handsome and shamelessly seductive, Will invites her to be his mistress -- and Phoebe is shockingly tempted to accept. But as their desire for each other grows and the risk of exposure becomes even greater, Phoebe is in dire danger of losing her reputation, her livelihood -- and her chance of becoming the bride of the man whose passion has claimed her forever.

The Dangers of Deceiving a Viscount December 6, 2008 While it was an easy read and most part enjoyable I found that William Darby's (the Viscount)siblings behaviour to be hideous at best in the beginning of the book I did not appreciate their transformation towards the end its as if they went from uncivilized to civilized in the blink of an eye. Through out the story Joshua Darby the second son was hell bent on making Will's life as miserable as possible from cheating at card games to interfering in his proposed marriage to Caroline the book leaves a bad taste in your mouth when suddenly the 2 latter characters are compromised and wedded....like ok so how did that happen and in the end they were all too happy so I felt there was no middle ground with the siblings just the beginning and an ending. Roger the younger brother was almost no where to be found....hmmmm! When it came to the sisters Alice and Jane Darby too much story time was wasted on them they fought constantly and to no end....til in the flip of a page they were behaving and tho Alice was got in a hmm compromising situation with the smithy...nothing came of it she had love him so feverishly through out the story and then just stopped long enough to fall for Remington. Again the story was spent too much on the siblings and not enough on Will who i liked very much handsome and sexy even romantic. On a positive note I did enjoy the love story between Phoebe and Will and their journey together tho i would have like there to have been more umph in the end.
The Risks of Reading a Romance July 28, 2008 It took a long time to get warmed up to the storyline in this book. After being fairly disappointed with the first two books in the series, I wasn't expecting much. And I didn't get it.
The ending was what most disappointed me, I think, even more that the two-dimensional, cliched characters. I'm not looking for anything deep and meaningful out of a romance novel, but I really want to be able to identify or empathize with at least one character in the book! And in this one, I didn't really find anyone that stood out. Everything fell into place a little too easily. The twists - what there were - were too obvious and boring. I just couldn't get excited about reading it, and, in fact, set the book down several times.
The worst part of the book, by far, was the last 'epilogue' part, where the author goes out of her way to show you how well everything - and I mean everything - turned out in the end. It was like being beaten with the 'Happily Ever After' stick. Way, way, way too much. The story would not have suffered without it, and the reader would have been free to - I know this is going out on a limb! - make up their own conclusions and ideas about the rest of the character's life. I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving a little up to the imagination, though I admit it's a balancing act between revealing enough to satisfy the readers but not so much it feels like you're spoon-feeding them plot. This book shovels the entire contents of the larder into your face.
I wouldn't say this is the worst of the romance novels I've read - not by a long shot - but there are so many better ones out there, I'd suggest giving this one a miss.
A disapointment. March 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read book one and enjoyed it a lot, so decided to buy and read the complete series...book 2&3 were a disapointment. This book in particular seems to have been inspired by A Sound of Music. Don't want to give too many spoilers but the book was a let down.
Enjoyable! January 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This won't be the greatest Regency read in your library but it is fun: Will's history of wanderlust made his conflict over family responsbilities that much more believable without being overly dramatic. Phoebe's reluctance to spill the beans about her identity to Will made perfect sense, given the circumstances of HER family's situation. The character development was adequate and varied and although there were a few moments where a willing suspension of disbelief is necessary (most notably how did no one at Wentworth Hall catch on to Phoebe's manner of speaking and carriage?) the protagonists were believable and likable.
The happy ending can be seen from a mile away but again, this is a lighthearted story (no evil or deranged enemies or S&M) that I couldn't wait to pick up every day. I hope you enjoy it, too.

I really liked this book. I read it in just a few days and thought it very entertaining and well-written. :)
